The Mooring in front of the Cemetery was officially opened on Saturday 11th June. The project was commenced by the Benwick Residents Association, who achieved the funding, and was opened by our local MP – Stephen Barclay. The mooring is owned by the Parish Council. The planting around the mooring (pictured right) was completed by Lyn Keppel-Spoor and Howard Langford. The mooring will also have two benches, one of which will be dedicated to the memory of Wilf Bedford.
LIFE has become easier for narrow boat users in the Fens after the opening of new moorings at Benwick.
The moorings were officially opened on Saturday by Steve Barclay, the MP for NE Cambs.
Peterborough branch of the Inland Waterways Association gave £1,080 towards the cost of the creation of public visitor moorings in the village on the Middle Level system of waterways.
Funding was also provided by the parish council and the watermen’s club.
The work was undertaken by the Middle Level Commissioners’ own engineering team.
Alistair Chambers, chairman of the Peterborough branch of the IWA, said: “We have fully supported the project to create public visitor moorings at Benwick and have been happy to donate its share of the profits of the IWA National Festival held at St. Ives in 2007 towards this local project”.
