Benwick receives two free local newspapers a week. The Cambs Times on a Friday and The Fenland Citizen on a Wednesday. It is from these sites which the news articles here are taken from.

This page contains news stories from 1990-2000. To see news stories from other years, click on the year below to go to the relevant page.

The parish council has agreed to spend some money on providing more play equipment but it has only limited cash and more is needed if full use is to be made of the park.

A representative of Cambridgeshire County Council attended the public meeting and made suggestions on how the park could be improved.
It was this which inspired the committee and on Saturday it staged its first major fund-raising event.

A float shaped like a pirate ship filled with children of all ages in fancy dress took to the streets accompanied by adults to make door to door collections. More than £262 was raised by the efforts. The Five Alls pub has staged a few fundraising events already and there are plans for more, with a car boot due to be held on August Bank Holiday Sunday.
Possibly from the Fenland Citizen; around July 1993??
Pirates appeared in the streets of Benwick on Saturday demanding money all in the name of charity. A new committee has been set up in the village to raise money for an ambitious £20,000 project to improve Benwick's play park.

An action committee was set up following a public meeting with the parish council to discuss the future of the play park which currently has just two pieces of lay equipment - swings and a slide.

Possibly from the Fenland Citizen; around 1992?

This photo is of Luke White and Adam Keppel-Garner in around 1992; at play group when the fire service came.

Being a small village, Benwick doesn't make major news very often. But on these pages you can read about all the times that Benwick has managed to make it into the papers. There is an archive of the past I years, and a little bit from before then too! If you have any newspaper clippings then please let me know, and anything you send will be duly accredited.
