1) Why would people of Benwick know you?
I’ve lived in the Village for nearly twenty three years in which time I have been involved with and fundraised for Toddlers, Playgroup, The Play-Park, I helped organize dances and other fundraising events to build the Village Hall, I designed and collated a recipe book to raise funds for the village school, I was Parish Clerk and am now a Parish Councilor, I am a now member of the village hall committee and the residents association, and a trustee on Turf Fen Charity
2) What is your earliest memory of Benwick?
The church at the end of the High Street when I came to view my house it was the only reason Benwick was listed in some local history books I read at the library for being the only
church outside Norfolk built of
Norfolk Stone, I was amazed when driving down the High Street the day I
moved in to see it had disappeared.
3) Favourite Band / Singer?
Don’t really have one, a few favourite songs, but no particular band, I like power ballads my favourite songs are Mike & the Mechanics - Living Years, The Cars - Drive, Meredith Brooks – Bitch
4) Marmite: Love it or Hate It?
Love it but don’t eat it very often
5) What do you like to do in your spare time?
What spare time?
6) What is the last book you read?
Charles Arnold Baker Local Council Administration (The Parish Councilor's Bible)
7) Favourite holiday destination?
Haven’t been many places but loved New York
8) What is your favourite hobby?
Don’t really have time for one
9) What is your favourite thing about Benwick?
The locals because of their history and character, the sense of freedom the open horizons the Fens offer
10) What is the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery?
I wouldn’t buy anything. It would buy me time for my family and the community of Benwick
11) What made you get involved with the Parish Council?
A strong belief in Democracy. I wanted to be able to do something for the community and work to help protect what the people of the village had worked hard to achieve. I have a passionate commitment to serving the community and have been involved with the Parish Council for around ten years. I want to work to help improve the facilities within in the village especially the huge deficit in public open space.
12) Where is the worst place you have lived?
London it seems dirty (although I suppose I didn’t realize until I moved away but that was a long time ago)
13) If you had £500 to give to charity - who would you give it to and why?
It would depend on whom / what I deemed needed it the most at that time and if it would be properly spent, it might not be a charity, but a person who I felt I could help.
14) What could you not live without and why?
My Kids they are the world to me!
15) Do you think Benwick has any major problems, if so what are they?
In comparison to when I first came here there is a major lack of community spirit too many people come here for the wrong reasons. Benwick you either love it or hate if you love it you want it to remain the small rural working village that it is and not try to change it into the town you came from. Country / Village living is about community, people, open space, a sense of freedom the facilities only need to be basic it’s the people who count.
16) Tea or Coffee?
Definitely Coffee my body wouldn’t survive without it
17) What made you move to Benwick?
Originally my ex husbands job but I stayed and he left. I loved it from the minute I moved in the local people are terrific.
18) What was the last thing you bought?
My new Jacuzzi bath, which most that have seen it describe as a pool not bath.
19) What made you get involved with the Village Hall Committee?
I don’t think it has ever been run in the way it was intended, since we raised the money to build it as a community asset, for the community of Benwick. The committee was supposed to work by way of fundraising annually with the help of user groups to keep the rental costs down so everyone could afford to use the hall.
20) What would you like to be remembered for?
If anything by my family for Loving, supporting and inspiring them to be what they want to be! And for standing up for what I believe in and not being afraid to say what I think.
