Google Chrome

While the website will work great on any browser, it is optimised for Google Chrome. Google Chrome is the web-browser developed by Google, it is very similar to Safari. It is the fastest, most dynamic browser avaliable.

Google Chrome

New Look Lilyholt Road

The website used to be made using Microsoft Frontpage, which was a simple, WYSISYG (what you see is what you get) programme, which made creating the website simple. However, it ended up presenting some limitations, mainly with compatability with browsers other than Internet Explorer, which with a rising number of people using Firefox, and myself using Google Chrome, as well as Mac users having Safari - the website became considerably less useful.

So welcome to the new, fully compatible version of www.liyholtroad.co.uk. There are now few if any compatibility issues, so everyone can enjoy the website to its fullest.

But I while sorting out the compatibility, it made sense to give the website a complete new look, and having a spring clean. So, what has changed?

Navigation and Pages

The old navigation bar was getting messy, filled with lots of links which made finding the pages you want difficult, so the website is now more sectioned. Keeping the old sections of The Parish Council, Genealogy and Groups & Clubs, there are now some new ones.

About Benwick

This section contains the information about the village, from the general 'About Benwick' page from the old site, which is now the main text for the section, you can from that page find:

  • History Of Benwick
  • History of the Churches
  • The Art of Anita Davies
  • Village Map
  • Parish Plan
  • Radio and TV

Residents Association

As one of the faster growing groups in the village, they have commanded their own section, which now contains details of The Benwick Dickensian Market, the Luncheon clubs and all the other odd bits they are up to.

Benwick Photographs

Rather than having new photographs loaded on the website every month, and having an archive of nearly a thousand, I decided to redo it into a complete section. Now photographs are sorted by location, rather than month, which means if you need want to see a photo of something it will be easier to find. Also in this section are all the old photographs and links to all other photo galleries on the website.

New Pages and Old Ones

I had a good look through the statistics, and looked at which pages were visited regularly and which weren't. The Games have now gone - lets face it they were rubbish anyway. I also removed the 360 degree views. This is because the way I made them was ineffective, they jumped and were slow to load, also Rob introduced something very similar, but better made onto his site, so check out the Panoramas on benwick.com.

Benwick in the News has also gone, it was difficult to keep up-to-date, and not many visited the pages. Similarly, The Play Park doesn't have a page anymore. The War Memorial page has been incorporated into the Genealogy section.

Also gone are some of the odd pages that were on the Homepage, since they didn't really add much to the website.

New pages however, include one for the Church. It contains details of the services which are held in the village hall, and will be gradually built up along with the Church building which is set to be built next to the Village Hall.

Content

The website is now full of information. It has been completely updated, and many pages have had a complete re-write. As such, there is no need for me to update the website each month, since there simply isn't much to fit on!

There have been more photos added, and all groups have been updated, contact details are up-to-date and the notices have been made complete too.

I will still keep up with Twenty Questions and Flashbacks, which will be added regularly.
