The Benwick Scouts
The Scouts is one of the biggest groups in the village, with a section for each of the four scout movements. The 1st Benwick Scouts first formed years ago, but were disbanded at some point, and did not start up again until around 1996 when the Beavers formed in the village, it wasn’t until around 1999 that the Cubs started, and 2003 when the Scouts formed. The final group; the Explorers formed in 2006.
Each group meets once a week in the Village Hall, every week in the school terms; with the exception of the Explorers. As soon as a child reaches 4 years old, they can be placed on the waiting list for joining Beavers, which is for ages 6-8, from then they move onto Cubs, aged 8-11 and then to Scouts for those aged 11-14. They then pass on the details of any Scout turning 13 to the local Explorer Scout Unit, which is also based in the village. The Explorer Scout Section will make contact regarding available places just before the Scouts 14th birthday.
Currently, they are awaiting a relaunch of the groups, after having had to find new leaders. They are on target for launching on 11th May.
